Everyone has been giving me shit lately for not writing a blog. While I sit here and edit episode 75 because I'm a grinder and do everything for this podcast, I've decided to multitask and write my debut blog as well. Are you ready? This isn't up for a debate. These are the top 5 video games in history. No opinions here, just straight facts. You'll notice most of these games are at least 10+ years old. That's because games in the modern era are essentially all about micro transactions. Very few development companies make a game and don't include some form of in game purchases. Whether it's cosmetic or for in game advantages or DLC, nearly every game now has these. It's quite a shame, but that is the world we live in where online gaming dominates and the in game purchases are king, but that's a conversation for another time. Lets get to it (you'll sense a theme pretty easily here).
I will start with some honorable mentions without any description. Here are some great games that almost cracked the list: Mario Kart (the series as a whole), Smash 64 & Melee, Jak & Daxter, Sly Cooper series, 007 Goldeneye, Banjo Kazooie, CoD: MW2 WaW, Smite (no bias at all), Mario Gold 64 & Toadstool Tour, Zelda (bunch of games), Pokemon Yellow & Crystal, Backyard Sports
5) DK64
What a game. Incredible story, and low-key super fun local multiplayer with friends. I think this was the first game I actually fell in love with and have crazy nostalgia for. I still am holding out the Switch will have an N64 virtual console but I know that's just a fantasy of mine. I will go to my grave saying this game is better than Banjo-Kazooie. It's a shame Dare is owned by Microsoft now so we will truly never get a remake of this game. However if you have an Xbox you can buy the Rare Replay to try out Banjo to get a taste of what DK64 was like.

4) Sonic Adventure Battle 2
Wait, you never raised a Chao? What in the hell is wrong with you. No matter which system you had, you had no excuse for not playing this one. Damn near unlimited gameplay to do. Chao's were absolute gamechangers and it's unfathomable to me we are here in 2020 and we do not have a game centered around raising Chao's. Talk about a money bit. People these days would go NUTS for a game like this. It would be electric. While the main story in this game is relatively short, there's 5 challenges on each level to complete for both Hero and Dark side. No way you beat them all and there's definitely no way you A ranked them all. If you tell me you did I don't believe you. Incredible game. Feel sorry for those that missed out on this one.

3) NFL Blitz
Just an absolutely electric factory of a game. I personally played on the N64, but I know there's also arcade games of this all over the place. I had pages of cheat codes to put in before every game. I only run 1 play (Da Bomb). Punching people to the ground, belly flopping on dudes after you tackle them, all of this shit was so much fun. This is probably a nostalgia pick and not many people will get this one, but holy moly this game I think was actually flawless. Actually, check that. The targeting system for picking which WR was brutal but who cares when you're jumping 15 feet in the air and punching people with stiff arms to the ground. Man, I need to go to that Barcade in Providence and sit on this machine all day. Also, this made me think of NFL Street. Shout out to that game and NBA street, both a lot fun as well.

2) Pokemon Gen 3 (Leafgreen, Firered, Sapphire, Ruby, Emerald)
Again, these are just facts. No opinions at all. If you never spent endless nights under your covers with a headlight on your GBA grinding any of these games I feel so bad for you. So many things about this game are memorable. The new path to the Elite 4, the addition of the Sevi Islands, the improved Elite 4, the National Dex, the list goes on. Oh yeah, and Pokemon Emerald is a masterpiece. Is there a single flaw? I'm not sure. You can do everything. There's so much to do in this game it's silly. Back in the good old days... (yes I'm still playing these on my Onyx GameBoy SP).

1) Pokemon Soulsilver & Heartgold
The best video game of all time is also a remake. Gen2 Pokemon was great in of itself and I didn't think this Gen4 game would be as good as it is. The only flaw in the entire game is there is no Pokemon Crystal remake, we were robbed of that. However, this game has everything and anything. All of the original Pokemon, classic story, and plenty of post game content (something modern Pokemon games significantly lack in). People also forget when this game came out, everyone in school would be walking around with Pokewalkers. This is when being a Pokemon nerd was IN and COOL. If you were to "cool" to walk around with your Pokewalker on your hip, you were no friend of mine. This game still is enjoyable to this day. It's also a shame that in general. grass starter gets boned here which I am not a fan of. Outside of that, flawless game. Getting your first Houndour is an electric feeling.

There you have, the completely non-bias facts only undisputed top 5 video games in history. Again, I can't stress this enough. These are FACTS, there's no opinion or bias towards a certain company whatsoever in this blog at all. This is based off of decades of research. Thank you for reading this.
